Freeze the moment – Injectables!

Considering injectables? Find out what our skin experts think about how injectables can prevent ageing!

Stopping wrinkles is the key…

We can’t stop ourselves from getting older, but really it’s not the age that concerns us it’s looking tired and old that we don’t like… there are many things that can help us stay looking younger including eating well, getting a good sleep, sunscreen and topical eye creams including retinol. But these alone are unlikely to completely prevent or cure the signs of ageing, so what else can we do?

Once you have got your skincare routine sorted the next best thing is Botox ®

Botulinum Toxin is injected into certain muscles preventing them from contacting this reduces movements which usually result in wrinkle formation. The aim is not to completely paralyse a muscle but just to reduce its movement enough to smooth the skin and prevent crinkling. The toxin works by preventing the signal from the nerve to reach the muscle, this wears off over 3-4 months and then needs repeating. There are no long term adverse effects but temporary side effects include headaches and over treatment resulting in heaviness or dropping around the eyes or mouth.

Anti wrinkle injections | Beyond MedispaBotox ® is fantastic at preventing wrinkles so I suggest starting early, prevention is better than cure! It’s different for each individual, I started in my early twenties as I have a very expressive face, so started getting lines on my forehead at a young age. I now have no wrinkles at all on my forehead and I’m ten years older than when I started. If left to your later years, Botox ® can be used to help soften the wrinkles but it won’t be able to remove them completely, it will how ever prevent them from getting worse.

Replacing volume loss is essential…

When Botox ® isn’t enough we then turn to dermal fillers containing hyaluronic acid (HA). HA is a naturally occurring substance found in our cells and is there to plump the cell creating cushioning and protection for the cells other components. When we age we lose our natural HA resulting in poor skin tone and sagging. We also lose fat and bone which results in significant volume loss in the face which also leads to sagging. Fillers can be used to replace this volume loss giving the underlying structure back to the face and improve the contours and tightness. Fillers can also bus used directly into the superficial layers to treat deeper wrinkles.

Replenishing Collagen is the finishing touch…

As well as losing our HA we also lose collagen and elastin in our skin which again contributes to the ageing and sagging we see in later years. There are many treatments which can we use to improve our collagen and elastin such as radio frequency and ultrasound and even ingesting  collagen supplements and drinks. Most recently we have seen the introduction of injectables which help stimulate our own natural collagen such as Profhilo. Profhilo is a pure HA without cross links (which means it won’t stay in the skin long term), it is injected in 5 areas on each side of the face or equally spread if treating the neck or other areas of the body. It then spreads throughout the skin and induces bio-remodelling, this results in and increase in our bodies own collagen and elastin production. The overall effect is plumping and tightening of the skin.

With any injectable treatment maintenance is key, it is important to keep on top of the ageing process and do small tweaks along the way to see the best, most natural results.
